Our organization was formed in 1992, by the County of Wayne under the Michigan Municipal Health Facilities Corporation Act, as a way to create a quality public coverage option for the people of Detroit and surrounding areas.
The values that guide and define what we do as an organization are:
HealthChoice of Michigan is directed and governed by a Board of Trustees, consisting of seven members: three Wayne County Commissioners and four Appointees under the Wayne County Executive. As Executive Director, I handle the day-to-day operation of HealthChoice of Michigan with the assistance of staff members. Our whole team is made up of caring health and administrative professionals dedicated to helping local people who may be underserved, uncovered and vulnerable.
Who do we help, exactly?
For one, many independent business-owners throughout Wayne and Oakland County are taking advantage of the HealthChoice program to provide affordable health care coverage for themselves and their employees.
In addition to the Small Business Plan, which can include Dental and Vision, we offer Individual Dental Coverage Programs for individuals and families as well as Senior Plans for Prescription, Vision and Dental coverage that is affordable to our local community.
Access to coverage is a crucial safety net for our Detroit-area individuals, families and the small businesses that support and enrich our cities.
Having the peace of mind that comes from knowing that preventative exams, consistent medical care and emergency care are covered is something that can be easy to take for granted if it’s always been part of your life -- but it can make all the difference for someone who’s been living without it.
HealthChoice of Michigan is proud to help make that difference for our community.
